So today’s segment is going to be about root canal treatment. I know everybody always hates root, canal, treatment or gets terrified about it, but honestly, it’s not that bad It’s essentially like trying to save a drowning man in a river and we’re throwing that man a lifeline So the tooth by the point of needing root -canal treatment isn’t in great shape But there are things that we can do to stay fit and it can be completely pain -free and stress- free as long as you’re in safe hands which you are with Mr Dominic Jones here at the practice so please please please don’t panic about it.

If you’ve got any more questions after this then let us know but otherwise I’m going to hand you over to Dom and he’s going to explain a bit about what root canal actually is.

So root canal treatment as Jason was saying if you got a tooth which is in pretty bad shape so it’s heavily damaged it has had lots of trauma or it got an infected or inflamed nerve tissue. So what we do is we drill in through the top of the tooth to find that damaged and inflame nerve tissues. This is all done with local anaesthetics so you shouldn’t feel any pain or any discomfort. We check throughout to make sure that is the case.

  • We start by drilling into the top of the tooth to find that inflamed or infected nerve tissue. This is all done under local anaesthetic so you shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort. We continue to check this throughout treatment to ensure you are comfortable.
  • Once we’ve found the damaged nerve, we disinfect the area and shape the roots before filling the nerve canal.(The video above shows an image of a healthy tooth and a tooth that has been treated with a root canal)
  • Once we have sufficiently treated the tooth and you are pain free, we often put a crown or an onlay on the tooth to stop it from Cracking.
